Maca Cacao Hot Chocolate

Happy December! That feels so bizarre to claim simply due to the fact in Texas it through no means really feels like December (and I’m ok with that), but we did wake as much as an especially chilly morning the different day. I went downstairs, made my each day ice chilly smoothie, and introduced it to my desk. I sat right the following shivering, knowing that I’m doing this late-fall morning factor all wrong.

Ingredients

  • 2½ cups almond milk (I use Almond Breeze Original)
  • 2 tablespoons cacao powder (I use Nativas Naturals)
  • 1 tablespoon maca powder (I use Essential Living Foods)
  • 2 tablespoon maple syrup, or to taste
  • ½ teaspoon coconut oil
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • Tiny pinch of sea salt
  • optional toppings:
  • Coconut whip (see selfmade classes below)
  • Shaved darkish chocolate

Instructions

  • In a blender, blend the almond milk, cacao powder, maca, maple syrup, coconut oil, cinnamon and salt. (You too can whisk this collectively through hand). Transfer to a medium saucepan and heat. Taste and modify the sweetness if desired. If it is too thick, upload somewhat bit extra almond milk.

Serve with coconut whip and shaved darkish chocolate, equally optional.
Notes

  • Homemade Coconut Whip:
  • solids from 1 (14-ounce) can full-fat coconut milk, refrigerated overnight
  • ⅓ cup powdered sugar
  • Few drops of vanilla extract
  • Make the coconut whip through combining the meals in a mixer and blend till whipped and fluffy. Note: a few cans of coconut milk are duds - meaning that the solids and the water don't separate and the whip cream won't whip. I've had the finest luck utilizing Whole Foods 365 model complete fats canned coconut milk.

Since then, I’ve been blending up this concoction for Jack and me – it’s a fitter hot chocolate than the Swiss Miss from the snow days of my childhood. Instead of cocoa, I decided to make use of a combo of cacao powder and maca powder. Cacao is essentially essentially the foremost natural kind of chocolate and it’s jam-packed with antioxidants, fiber, and magnesium. Maca (powder from the Peruvian maca root) has a malty vanilla flavor, and it’s nice for fatigue, memory, and a slew of different things.* It gives somewhat decide on me up that’s identical but now not as severe as coffee. Perfect for somewhat morning boost.

I don’t really serve this with whipped cream for breakfast, but when you’re making this for dessert, move forward and make it really with a dollop coconut whip (recipe below) and shaved chocolate.
